ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
June 13, 2006
1. ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.
Committee members present: Mr. Joel Gewirtz, Ms. Claudia Klug-Kowel, Ms. Coral Aiken-Miller, Ms. Susan Oldershaw, and Ms. Rose Ann Patterson. Dr. William Tietze and Ms. Nora Joel were absent.
City staff present: Ms. Laura Litzan, Mr. Dana Souza and Ms. Lois Gunter.
2. ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR
Coral Aiken-Miller was nominated for Chairwoman of the Arts Advisory Committee.
MOTION by Rose Patterson to Elect Coral Aiken-Miller Chairwoman of the Arts Advisory Committee. Second by Joel Gewirtz. Motion carried 5-0.
Dr. William Tietze was nominated for Vice-Chairman of the Arts Advisory Committee.
MOTION by Rose Patterson to Elect Dr. William Tietze Vice-Chairman of the Arts Advisory Committee. Second by Coral Aiken-Miller. Motion carried 5-0.
MOTION by Coral Aiken-Miller to Recommend That Rose Patterson Continue In the Role of Arts Advisory Committee Liaison with Nora Joel Supporting Her in a Backup Capacity. Second by Susan Oldershaw. Motion carried 5-0.
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION by Joel Gewirtz to Approve the Agenda. Second by Coral Aiken-Miller. Motion carried 5-0.

4. APPROVAL OF April 11, 2006 MINUTES
MOTION by Rose Patterson to Approve the April 11, 2006 Minutes. Second by Susan Oldershaw. Motion carried 5-0.
5. DONATION OF “MARCO MAN” SCULPTURE – Juan Munera
1. Mr. Munera presented information detailing the opportunity for the City to acquire the “Marco Man” sculpture created by artist Jack Howard-Potter and answered questions raised by the Arts Advisory Committee.
MOTION by Rose Patterson to Recommend That the Acquisition and Purchase of the “Marco Man” Be Forwarded To the City Council for Consideration. Second by Susan Oldershaw. Motion carried 5-0.
6. Guidelines and the Role of Arts Advisory Committees – Dana Souza
Dana Souza shared information prepared by the City of Portland, Maine as Guidelines for the Arts Advisory Committee. He also presented plans for the Jane Hittler Park which highlighted opportunities for the AAC involvement.
7. LIAISON INFORMATION
Rose Patterson commented on her involvement with the Beautification Committee and noted the importance of all committees working together for a common community goal.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
None.
9. PUBLIC COMMENT
Mrs. Charles Kiester commented on the thoroughness of the Committee members in evaluating the opportunity with the “Marco Man” sculpture.
7. ADJOURN
The meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m. The next Arts Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 in the lower level conference room at City Hall.
