ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
July 11, 2006
1. ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.
Committee members present: Mr. Joel Gewirtz, Ms. Claudia Klug-Kowel, Ms. Coral Aiken-Miller, Dr. William Tietze and Ms. Nora Joel. Ms. Susan Oldershaw and Ms. Rose Ann Patterson were absent.
City staff present: Ms. Laura Litzan.
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION by Claudia Klug-Kowel to Approve the Agenda. Second by Joel Gewirtz. Motion carried 5-0.

3. APPROVAL OF JUNE 13, 2006 MINUTES
MOTION by Claudia Klug-Kowel to Approve the June 13, 2006 Minutes. Second by Joel Gewirtz. Motion carried 5-0.
4. DISCUSSION
1. “Marco Man” Sculpture – Next Steps
Following discussion the Chair will ask the City Landscape Architect, Mike McGee, to work with Martin Pinckney from American Engineering to determine a suitable base for the sculpture. The Chair will convey the Committee’s recommendation to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Claudia Klug-Kowel suggested that additional decorative signage would be useful throughout the City.
2. City of Portland, Maine Guidelines/Marco Island Guidelines
Following discussion the Committee agreed to move forward with the Guidelines already completed by the Committee, and add a “workbook” that follows the City of Portland Guidelines. The final “Guidelines” and “Workbook” will be considered for approval at the next meeting.
5. LIAISON INFORMATION
Because Rose Patterson was absent this item will be included on next month’s agenda.
6. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Dr. Tietze
It was agreed that Claudia Klug-Kowel and Nora Joel will join Dr. Tietze in efforts toward the Performing Arts Objective.
2. Review of Matrix Areas
The Objectives and Assignments were discussed and will be updated at each meeting.

9. ADJOURN
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 a.m. The next Arts Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in the lower level conference room at City Hall.
