DISCUSSION

Marco Man Update

Laura Litzan reported that City Council did approve the $5,000 additional funding needed for the Marco Man statue.  The statue will stay in its current location until after the holidays.  The Beautification Committee feels that it should be placed somewhere at the Government Center and will be revisiting this matter at their next meeting.

Ms. Litzan also advised that the City’s Finance Director will add the statue to the City’s inventory for insurance purposes once we receive the invoice.

Schedule Workshop – Review Art Master Plan/Site Map

The committee agreed to dedicate most of the January committee meeting to implement the Art Master Plan/Site Map.

Vickie Kelber advised that she would try to find some master plans from other cities and email the committee the links.

Ms. Kelber also mentioned that we can review and make revisions to the “Workbook” at the February committee meeting.

MIFA Donation Update – “High Four”

Ms. Jo-Ann Sanborn advised that she is having trouble finding a person to chair the fund raising committee for the “High Four” statue.

MIFA Donation Update – “Ridley Sea Turtles”

Ms. Jo-Ann Sanborn informed the committee that the “Ridley Sea Turtles” statue is not a donation, but that it will be a loan from Knox Gallery in Naples, Florida.

OTHER BUSINESS

The committee held a brief discussion concerning the plans for Jane Hittler Park.

Public Art Donation Form

The committee reviewed the Public Art Donation form prepared by Vickie Kelber and recommended some changes.  The committee will consider the form for approval at the next committee meeting.

The committee discussed the timeframe of when a donator needs to meet with the City’s planning department.

Vickie Kelber suggested that we ask City Council if the City Attorney can develop a contract for accepting donations after they approve the proposed 2006/2007 Arts Advisory Committee Policy and Guidelines at the next Council meeting in January.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Ms. Jo-Ann Sanborn announced that MIFA is having a children’s poster contest for “Conservation Day.”  She asked if the top three winners could be displayed at Marco Island City Hall.  The committee was in favor of displaying the posters at City Hall.

The meeting adjourned at 9.00 a.m.

The next Arts Advisory Committee meeting is Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. in the lower level conference room at City Hall.
