ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
January 9, 2007
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. by Chair Vickie Kelber.
Committee members present: Ms. Claudia Klug-Kowel, Ms. Rose Ann Patterson, and Ms. Nora Joel. Ms. Susan Oldershaw and Mr. Joel Gewirtz were absent.
City staff present: City Clerk Laura Litzan and Administrative Assistant Debbie McCabe.
Members of the public present: None.
APPROVE AGENDA
MOTION by Rose Patterson to approve the agenda. Second by Vickie Kelber. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4-0.
APPROVAL OF DECEMBER 19, 2006 MINUTES
MOTION by Nora Joel to approve the December 19, 2006 Arts Advisory Committee minutes. Second by Vickie Kelber. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4-0.
APPROVE PUBLIC ART DONATION FORM
The committee reviewed the final changes made to the public art donation form.
MOTION by Claudia Klug-Kowel to approve the public art donation form. Second by Nora Joel. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4-0.
MIFA DONATION UPDATE
There was no update concerning the MIFA donations at this time.
REVIEW ART MASTER PLAN/SITE MAP
After review of several Art Master Plans, the committee agreed to focus on Coral Springs and Delray, Florida Master Plans.
The committee discussed steps for implementing an Art Master Plan:
1) Set up Arts Advisory Committee meeting with City staff to educate the committee on the logistics of an Art Master Plan.
2) Complete survey simultaneously with developing three focus groups: 1) Art community 2) Business community and 3) City advisory boards.
3) Organize findings from the survey and the three focus groups.
4) Present findings of the City staff meeting, the survey, and focus groups. Hold a public hearing for the general public.
5) Bring Art Master Plan to City Council for approval.
The committee agreed to invite City staff to the next meeting on February 13, 2007 for input on the logistics of an Art Master Plan. Laura Litzan advised she would contact and inform staff members.
The committee agreed to finalize the questionnaire for the focus groups and community at the March 13, 2007 Arts Advisory Committee meeting and meet with the focus groups during March and April.
During the summer months, the committee will compile their findings and present the Art Master Plan to City Council sometime in the fall.
Vickie Kelber asked the committee to develop questions for the survey and send them to her within the next 4-6 weeks.
Vickie Kelber showed the committee the City of Naples’ Public Art Program brochure and their map of both potential sites for art and City-owned public art.
Laura Litzan advised that she would contact Val Simon, with the Suntimes newspaper, to advertise and distribute the surveys to help the committee with this project.
OTHER BUSINESS
Laura Litzan advised that City Council approved the Arts Advisory Committee Policies and Guidelines at the January 8, 2007 Council meeting.
Laura Litzan further advised that the City Attorney will have the legal contract forms ready for the committee to review at the next committee meeting.
Vickie Kelber suggested that the committee wait until a later time to review the Arts Advisory Committee Workbook.

The next Arts Advisory Committee meeting is Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. in the lower level conference room at City Hall.
