ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
May 8, 2007
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. by Chair Vickie Kelber.
Committee members present: Ms. Claudia Klug-Kowel, Ms. Nora Joel, Ms. Lavonne Johnson, Ms. Rose Patterson, Ms. Jo-Ann Sanborn and Mr. Greg Glover.
City staff present: City Clerk Laura Litzan, and Administrative Assistant Debbie McCabe.
Members of the public present: None.
INTRODUCE NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER(S)
On behalf of the Arts Advisory Committee, Chair Vickie Kelber introduced and welcomed new committee members Jo-Ann Sanborn and Greg Glover.
Chair Vickie Kelber briefed the new committee members concerning the Sunshine Law and recommended they attend the next training session.
APPROVE AGENDA
MOTION by Nora Joel to approve the agenda. Second by Jo-Ann Sanborn. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 7-0.
APPROVAL OF APRIL 10, 2007 MINUTES
MOTION by Lavonne Johnson to approve the April 10, 2007 Arts Advisory Committee minutes. Second by Rose Patterson. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 7-0.
FINALIZE & APPROVE SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE
Master Art Plan Questionnaire
The committee reviewed and finalized the Master Art Plan Questionnaire to include a deadline of June 30, 2007.
The committee members offered to distribute the questionnaires to local organizations such as the Marco Island Civic Association, Art League, Rotary Club, etc.
Lavonne Johnson and Claudia Klug-Kowel offered to distribute the questionnaires to their places of worship.
Laura Litzan advised that we would outsource the printing of the questionnaire and let the committee members know when they are ready for distribution. She also commented that the questionnaire is currently on the city’s website.
Focus Group Questionnaire
The committee reviewed and finalized the focus group questionnaire.
Chair Vickie Kelber reminded the committee that the focus group meeting is on May 17, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. located at Mackle Community Park. There will be three focus groups comprised of business, art, and advisory committee representatives. The committee agreed to form the following focus groups consisting of ten (10) business representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, six (6) representatives from the Art League and four (4) representatives from the Marco Island Foundation of the Arts (MIFA) and a chairperson from each city advisory committee.
Chair Vickie Kelber commented that the meeting should last an hour and to bring three easels.
Chair Vickie Kelber advised that she would open the meeting and summarize the history of the Arts Advisory Committee. She also agreed to facilitate the business focus group.
Chair Vickie Kelber suggested that staff make email contact with the chairperson from each of the city’s advisory committees.
Rose Patterson and Lavonne Johnson advised that they would make contact with the Art League to invite representatives to the focus group meeting.
Claudia Klug-Kowel and JoAnn Sanborn will notify MIFA participants of the focus group meeting.
Laura Litzan advised she has notified the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce about the focus group meeting.
Laura Litzan and Nora Joel agreed to work together to facilitate a focus group.
Claudia Klug-Kowel and Jo-Ann Sanborn mentioned that they would work together to facilitate a focus group.
Committee members Rose Patterson, Greg Glover, and Lavonne Johnson will join one of the three focus groups to help organize and facilitate the meetings.
FINALIZE LEGAL CONTRACT FORM
Chair Vickie Kelber suggested we finalize the legal contract at the next meeting to give new committee members the opportunity to review the legal contract and make comments.
REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR OF DOLPHIN STATUE
Laura Litzan informed the committee that a repair person from Marco River Marina is coming to look at the dolphin statue and repair it at a reasonable cost.
The committee briefly discussed moving the dolphin statue to another location in the future.
DISCUSS SUMMER SCHEDULE
After review of the summer schedule, the committee agreed to cancel the August 14, 2007 meeting and move the October 9, 2007 meeting to October 16, 2007.
Co-Chair Claudia Klug-Kowel will conduct the September 11, 2007 meeting in the absence of Chair Vickie Kelber.
OTHER BUSINESS
Greg Glover suggested making a future fountain park.
Laura Litzan mentioned that we will ask Public Information Coordinator Lisa Douglass to help us with creating a PowerPoint presentation for the Master Art Plan when we are ready.
Chair Vickie Kelber advised that we need to start the paperwork process if MIFA is donating the “Sea Ridley Turtles” sculpture to Jane Hittler Park.
Laura Litzan commented that we would invite Parks and Recreation Director Dana Souza to the next meeting to give an update on Jane Hittler Park.
Laura Litzan informed the committee that the “Marco Man” sculpture is going to be incorporated into the new landscaping by the municipal building.

The next Arts Advisory Committee meeting is Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. in the lower level conference room at City Hall.
