ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
March 11, 2008
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. by Co-Chair Claudia Klug-Kowel.
Committee members present: Ms. Nora Joel, Ms. Jo-Ann Sanborn, and Mr. Greg Glover.
City staff present: Administrative Assistant Debbie McCabe.
Members of the public present: None.
APPROVE AGENDA
MOTION by Jo-Ann Sanborn to approve the agenda, amended to move Item 4 – Field Trip to Jane Hittler Park last on the agenda. Second by Greg Glover. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4-0.
APPROVE MINUTES FOR JANUARY 8, 2008
MOTION by Nora Joel to approve the January 8, 2008 Arts Advisory Minutes. Second by Jo-Ann Sanborn. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4-0.
DISCUSS TRASH RECEPTACLES
The committee agreed to look at the trash receptacles at Jane Hittler Park and discuss future tile art for them at the next meeting.
DISCUSS VETERANS COMMUNITY PARK REPRESENTATIVE
On behalf of the Arts Advisory Committee, Claudia Klug-Kowel volunteered to be the representative for the Veterans Community Park Committee and Jo-Ann Sanborn volunteered to be the alternate representative.
DISCUSS PATRIOTIC SCULPTURE
The committee reviewed the information on the patriotic bronze monument grouping of sculptures attached in Exhibit 1 and discussed location and funding for it. The cost is $100,000. Jo-Ann Sanborn suggested placing the sculpture at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The committee recommended other locations for the sculpture such as Veterans Community Park or Mackle Park.
Claudia Klug-Kowel suggested Parks and Recreation Director Dana Souza review the information for the sculpture.
Greg Glover recommended a bronze flag for Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Claudia Klug-Kowel suggested a dedication wall for Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Jo-Ann Sanborn suggested a Marco Cat sculpture in the future.
OTHER BUSINESS
Claudia Klug-Kowel advised the committee that the current planning board members appeared to be optimistic about the Public Arts Ordinance. She commented that when new members of the planning board are appointed, the committee will present the arts ordinance again.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
FIELD TRIP TO JANE HITTLER PARK
The committee agreed to visit Jane Hittler Park to look at locations for future art.
