Beautification Advisory Committee
The Committee, was established in 1981 through a MSTU (Municipal Service Taxation Unit) voted on by the citizens of Marco Island for the sole objective of  renovating roadway medians.  It must be noted that this was the first MTSU in the state of Florida approved for the express purpose of beautification.  Specifically beautifying the community’s landscape character in a way that is consistent with the tropical character and natural beauty of Marco Island.

Progress is not always environmentally nor aesthetically pleasing.  In the early days of Marco Island’s modern history, developers gave little consideration to the existing island vegetation.  Trees were uprooted and removed in order to proceed with the dredge and fill process necessary in developing the system of canals that traverses our beautiful island.   It was an unfortunate time in Marco Island’s history when the community failed to comprehend the intrinsic value of that now lost vegetation.  However in the early 1980’s island leaders recognized the need to begin replacing what was lost and the precursor of the Marco Island Beatification Advisory Committee was formed.
