Beautification Advisory Committee Orientation Meeting
Minutes – June 26, 2008
1. ROLL CALL
Chairwoman Mellinger called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
Committee members present: Sandi Johnson, Susan Oldershaw, Linda McCune and Syd Mellinger. Alan Brown arrived late.
City staff present: Dana Souza, Director, and Patty Mastronardi, Administrative Assistant.
Others present: Kelly Farrell, Marco Island Eagle Newspaper
2. INTRODUCTION NEW MEMBER
Chairwoman Mellinger welcomed Ms. McCune & Ms. Oldershaw to the Beautification Advisory Committee. Ms. McCune discussed her strong desire to get involved and stay in tuned with a certified green environment for the community. Ms. Oldershaw wants to share her 29 years of gardening experience and help keep a healthy surrounding.
3. OVERVIEW OF BAC
Ms. Mellinger and Mr. Souza gave an overview of BAC activities, budget constraints and projects. Ms. Mellinger emphasized the importance of committee members attending meetings that pertain to the Beautification Committee, including City Council meetings.
4. ROLL OF CITY STAFF MEMBERS
Chairwoman Mellinger advised Ms. McCune & Ms. Oldershaw on the roll of City staff members as liaisons for advisory committees.
5. MISSION STATEMENT, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives were reviewed and questions answered.
6. SUNSHINE LAW
Mr. Souza reviewed the Florida Sunshine Laws and how they pertain to advisory committees. The Florida Sunshine Laws and the Code of Ethics will be further discussed at the City Managers July 24, 2008 meeting.
7. ADVISORY COMMITTEE RESOURCES
Ms. Mellinger stated that at some point committee members will be asked to accept a project for the BAC and suggested that the primary resources should be the department Director and/or his Administrative Assistant.
8. DISTRIBUTION OF BAC MATERIALS WITH EXPLANATIONS
Ms. Mellinger suggested Ms. McCune and Ms. Oldershaw review their information packets for questions to be answered at the next Beautification Meeting which is scheduled on July 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
9. GENERAL QUESTIONS - ALL
Mr. Souza and Ms. Mellinger answered the general questions. McCune requested a copy of the tree ordinance.
10. ADJOURN
Ms. Mellinger adjourned the meeting at 10:50 a.m.
