MISSION STATEMENT
To establish Marco Island as a Bicycle Friendly Community that is fully endorsed by the Marco Island City Council.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
GOAL: To promote safe and convenient bicycle access to all parts of Marco Island in order to minimize overall City costs, reduce traffic congestion, ensure public safety, improve the environment, boost the economy, and to enhance recreational opportunities and the quality of life on Marco Island.
ACTION/STRATEGIES:
· Direct activities that highlight Marco Island as a bicycle friendly City.
· Establish information programs which communicate the many benefits of bicycling to residents and businesses.
· Educate all road users to share the road and interact safely.
· To submit to the City Council an action plan for a Bicycle Friendly City.
· Identify maintenance needs and ongoing City improvements for cyclists.
· To establish safe and convenient bicycle access to all parts of the City through a signed network of on- and off-street facilities, low-speed streets, and secure parking for cyclists.
· To provide to City Council with a regular evaluation of the progress towards our goal to establish Marco Island as a Bicycle Friendly City.
· Convince the Marco Island City Council to ensure that all city policies, plans, codes, and programs are updated and implemented to take advantage of every opportunity to create a more bicycle-friendly City.
· Provide goals and objectives on issues to be addressed.
· Establish actions/strategies to achieve these goals.
· Provide the above to the City Clerk, City Manager, and City Council.
· Meet monthly to accomplish the above and provide minutes of these meetings and other documents to the City Clerk, City Manager, and City Council.
