Permits and Licensure and Exceptions for Low-Voltage Work
The following information is adopted policy as of this date.
Subject: Permits and Licensure and Exceptions for Low-Voltage Work
In Late December the Building Department received a Memo from the State of Florida Dept of Business and Professional Regulation regarding Low Voltage Work. That memo has prompted a change in policy as follows:
Any person or company installing a low voltage lighting system, inside or outside of a building, shall be either a Licensed Electrical Contractor or have a Limited Energy Systems Specialty License issued by the State of Florida.
Limited Energy Systems are systems that do not exceed 77 volts. These systems shall be permitted and inspected by the City of Marco Island. Cost of the permit will be $38.00 for exterior work and $43.25 for interior work. Interior work will require two sets of plans for single family homes and three sets of plans for multi-family and commercial buildings. Exterior work can be permitted over the counter and interior work should have an estimated review time of less than a week. The Electric Permit Application will be used for this work.
Systems for signaling, stereo, television and home theater are exempt from permitting.
Fire Alarm Systems continue to require a permit.
