City Council Budget Workshop June 14, 2002 1:00 p.m.
Chairman Tucker called the meeting to order and presided.

BUSINESS
(A) WORKSHOP Staff Presentations of the FY2002-2003 Budget.
(Editorial History: During the workshop, staff will present to City Council proposed departmental operating budgets and proposed capital projects for FY2002-2003.)
Following presentations by the City Manager and Department Directors on the City s recommended operating and capital improvement budgets, Council agreed to support the FY2003 Budget proposed by staff, and the millage rate of 1.7437, with the following change:
· The funds allocated for the hiring of a Parks and Recreation Coordinator will remain in the budget, however, the decision to hire a Parks and Recreation Coordinator will be deferred until the matter is further discussed by City Council.
The City Manager announced that the tentative date, time, and meeting place for the first Budget Hearing will be Tuesday, September 3, 2002, at 6:00 p.m. at Frank E. Mackle, Jr., Community Park, 1361 Andalusia Terrace, Marco Island, Florida.

Public Comment
Mr. Sal Sciarrino, 922 Montego Court, stated that he believes that the Police Department should be handling code enforcement.
Dr. Fay Biles, 1588 Heights Court, clarified that the study completed by a student at Florida Gulf Coast University regarding police departments was not a scientific study.
Mr. Mel Ollman, 841 Heathwood Drive, expressed his concern that the addition of a Parks & Recreation Coordinator is a duplication of services already provided by the Marco Island YMCA.
Dr. Bob Ayling, 181 Bonita Court, Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, advised Council that the Committee s recommendation for hiring a Parks & Recreation Coordinator is not intended to replace the YMCA.

There being no further business to come before City Council the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
