City Council Workshop   August 12, 2002  7:10 p.m.
                Chairman Tucker called the meeting to order and presided.

                        Interested citizens and visitors


BUSINESS

(A)     WORKSHOP  City Council agreed to meet to discuss future planned roadway improvements for North Collier Boulevard.

Public Works Director Vladimir Ryziw and Community Development Director Greg Niles, along with Mr. Bill Oliver of the firm Tindale-Oliver and Associates, Inc. and Mr. Joe Ebner of the firm Johnson Engineering, presented to Council an overview of the preliminary engineering design for future roadway improvements for North Collier Boulevard, which included:

·       Project History  Concepts
·       Community Design Elements
·       Improvement Plan
·       South Collier Boulevard Improvement Plan
·       Existing Conditions
·       Design Development
·       Project Timeline
·       Right-of-Way Planning
·       Community Involvement

According to preliminary cost estimates, the project will cost the City of Marco Island approximately $9.6 million, excluding utility relocation, and construction is expected to begin in 2005.

MOTION by Councilwoman Kelber to SUSPEND 9:00 P.M. RULE AND CONTINUE THE MEETING.  Second Councilwoman DiSciullo.  Motion carried 7-0.
    
Public Comment

Mr. Sal Scrianno, 911 Montego Court, questioned whether the right turn lane for Residents Beach would be relocated.

Dr. Fay Biles, 1588 Heights Court, expressed concern that needed roadway repairs not be delayed until construction begins in 2005.


Following discussion, the majority of council members agreed that the roadway improvement project for North Collier Boulevard should continue as planned, and that the dissemination of information to the public should be a vital component of the project.

There being no further business to come before City Council, the meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
