BUSINESS
(A) DISCUSSION – Sewer System Options
(Editorial History: In November 2003 City Council awarded a contract to MWH Americas, Inc. for the development of a business plan through a comprehensive Utility Master Plan. The Plan is to identify the broad elements of the utility and to provide technical details upon which to make financial and operating decisions regarding the Marco Island Utilities. The purpose of this special called meeting is to discuss sanitary collection options and receive public input.)
Following a moment of silence to honor the passing of President Ronald Regan, Mr. John Darmody of MWH Americas, Inc. presented to Council the two main sewer alternatives (gravity system and vacuum system); the costs for each alternative; the advantages and disadvantages; and possible financing options.
Public Comment
An unidentified citizen questioned whether a vacuum system would be less expensive.
MOTION by Councilman Arceri to PROCEED WITH PLANNING THE INSTALLATION OF A GRAVITY SEWER SYSTEM. Second by Councilman Minozzi. Motion carried 7-0.
