BUSINESS
(History: City Council previously allocated funds for upgrading North Collier Boulevard from San Marco Road to Buttonwood Court that included regrading, repaving, curbing, drainage improvements, landscaping and widening sidewalks. Consultant Kimley-Horn’s 2005 estimate for the project as the City Council envisioned is $15 million; however, the Public Works CIP budget has $10,063,000 allocated.)
Public Works Director Rony Joel and Mr. Peter Van Buskirk of Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., presented five options for completing the North Collier Boulevard Project within the available funds, and responded to Council’s questions.
Public Comment
Mr. Jack Ashcraft, 907 Panama Court, feels that Collier Boulevard should be six lanes, or the project should get scrapped.
Mr. Phil Kostelnik, 121 Channel Court, feels that the traffic problem is being caused by seasonal people and that they should pay for infrastructure improvements.
MOTION by Vice-Chairman Arceri to APPROVE OPTION 5, MODIFIED TO EXTEND THE IMPROVEMENTS TO ROSE COURT AND INCLUDE TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT KENDALL DRIVE AND WEST ELKCAM CIRCLE, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS MATTER WILL BE REVIEWED AT THE CIP WORKSHOP. Second by Councilwoman DiSciullo. Motion carried 7-0.
