Press Release_22-10_City Clerk Laura Litzan Retirement

City Clerk Laura Litzan has announced her retirement from 24 years of service to the City of Marco Island, effective on April 15, 2022. Laura was hired by then City Manager Bill Moss on March 18, 1998 to be Deputy City Clerk, making Bill and Laura the first two full-time employees of the newly-incorporated City. In 1999 Laura took on the duties of Human Resources Director, was subsequently promoted to the position of City Clerk in October 2002 and has held that position ever since. As City Clerk Laura has coordinated the agendas for more than 480 City Council meetings, overseen the process for 12 City Council elections, and has worked with nine city managers. When the City has experienced change, Laura has been a consistent and stable force.

Laura served as a member of the City’s emergency response team for Hurricanes Wilma and Irma. She has been part of the executive leadership team, and year after year received exceptional performance evaluations. She has represented the City’s interests on both the Marco Island Police and Fire Pension Board of Trustees. Aside from her official duties, Laura has been an Ambassador for the City, handling residents’ concerns with a personal touch, in some cases even delivering flowers to citizens who had a difficult experience with the City.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University in Michigan. In 2012 she was designated a Certified Municipal Clerk by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. While working in City Hall she also completed training in Standards of Service Excellence and Community Emergency Response. Laura’s experience, expertise, and professionalism has been a great asset to the City and her commitment to the residents of Marco Island will continue to be appreciated.

Ms. Litzan will be honored by the Marco Island City Council with a proclamation recognizing her service to the City at their meeting of March 21, 2022.
