Using the Citizen Self Service portal to manage inspections

  • You can now use the portal on your cell phone or tablet.
  • Just remember to scroll down. New information loads below each button.
  • You must be logged and be a contact on the permit to schedule inspections.
    • Log in and open the permit.
    • Below the summary, you will see a row of buttons.
    • Click on the Inspections button, then scroll down to see the data.
  • There are two sections of inspections, Existing Inspections, and Request Inspections.
  • To schedule the inspection:
    • In the Request Inspection section
    • Click the radio button located to the right of the inspection(s) you want to schedule. (in the Action column).
    • Click on the Request Inspection button that activates (becomes bold) at the bottom of the list.
    • The Requested date is the date you want the inspection to happen on.
    • Fill out all the fields and click on Submit.
  • To view inspector comments:
    • In the Existing Inspections section
    • Click on the Inspection number, in the View Inspection column.
    • The page will reload. Click the Checklist button.
    • The comments will be in the Comments column.
  • To add documents to an inspection:
    • Useful for these document type inspections: 099 Notice of Commencement, 114 Elevator Certificate, 117 Final Threshold Letter, 122 Spot Survey, 123 Final Survey, 126 V Zone Break Away Wall Certificate, 127 Spot Elevation Certificate, 129 Engineering Certification, 139a Soil Treatment, 139b Final Soil Treatment, 142 Engineering Final, 147 Final Elevation Certificate, 152 Engineer Inspection Report, 164 Roof Mitigation Form, 303 Blower Door Test, 718 Pool Barrier Letter, 802 Landscape Final, 812 Heads in ROW waiver letter
    • Log In and click Dashboard, then open your permit.
      • Click on the Inspection tab within the permit. Do not schedule from the summary page.
      • Schedule the inspection and type “See Attachments” in the inspection note.
      • After scheduling the inspection click the word “Back” at the top of the page.
      • Open the newly scheduled inspection, by clicking on the Inspection number.
      • Click the Attachments button, then click the Attachment card.
      • Upload file and remember to click Submit.
      • If the 099 Notice of Commencement inspection is not available, contact permitting. Send email to permitdesk@cityofmarcoisland.com with “PROBLEM SCHEDULING INSPECTION” in the subject line and details of the permit in the body of the message. We will be on the lookout for this specific subject line.
      • If there is no Attachment card available in the scheduled inspection, click “Refresh” in the menu of your browser. If it still not available: Send email to permitdesk@cityofmarcoisland.com with subject “NEED INSPECTION ATTACHMENT UPLOADS TURNED ON” and details of the permit in the body of the message. We will be on the lookout for this specific subject line.
      • Notice that the Success message "Upload Successful! After these attachments have been approved, they will be available in the attachments section." isn't completely accurate.  Portal view of inspection attachments is off by default.  Check the inspection status instead. Within the inspection, check the checklist item section of the inspection, for comments from the inspector.

- Regarding the "Passed" column on the checklist screen. The inspectors only use the checklist items to indicate failed items. Your focus should be on the overall status of the inspection and any checklist comments.

- If you have trouble scheduling inspections via the portal, please phone in your inspection, then send staff an email requesting assistance with the portal.

- To return to the inspection list, click Back in your browser, or choose Permit Details from the row of links found just above the Existing Inspections section.

- Timed inspections are scheduled at the discretion of the inspector and based on the inspection load. Timed inspections must be prearranged with the inspector. The cost of a timed inspection is $70.00 for Building, Electric, Plumbing, Mechanical. Call ahead requests are considered timed inspections. 

- The preferred method to schedule inspections is through the citizen's access portal. Keep in mind that you can also view your inspection history and view the inspections scheduled at this page. If you are unable to schedule through this page, for now, you can also use the following phone numbers to schedule inspections.

Fire Inspections - Schedule inspections online through the portal.
