The City of Marco Island sends heartfelt sympathies to the families, residents, and neighbors impacted by the tragic collapse of the Champlain Tower Condominium in Surfside, Florida on June 24th.

We at the City believe in the work done by our building officials, their predecessors in Collier County and by our professional building managers here on the Island and have no reason to believe there is any new risk here.An incident such as this is always a reminder to keep our tools sharp, and in that spirit we will continue to do exactly that.

Preventing this type of disaster is always a central focus for local government and we will continue to be proactive in keeping our residents and visitors safe. As the investigation of this tragedy continues, city staff will be attentive to lessons learned from this incident, the emergency response, and family assistance programs that will certainly follow.
