The City of Marco Island is pleased to announce the promotion of Casey Lucius to the position of Assistant City Manager beginning October 1, 2021. Dr. Lucius will lead the City’s Internal Services which includes Information Technology, Fleet and Facilities, Human Resources, and Purchasing and Risk Management. According to City Manager Mike McNees, “By restructuring the organization and with Casey’s leadership, we will create clear communication channels and enhance customer service by improving our processes and productivity within the four internal service areas.”

Dr. Lucius holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaii. She served as a Naval Intelligence Officer for seven years including a deployment to the Middle East onboard the aircraft carrier USS JOHN C. STENNIS. Casey also served as Operations Assistant/Chief of Staff to the U.S. Ambassador in Hanoi, Vietnam. Her government experience spansfrom being an aide in the Ohio House of Representativesto serving as an elected City Councilmember in Pacific Grove, California. She has worked for the City of Marco Island since March 2020 as the Assistant to the City Manager. She is currently an active member of the Florida City and County Management Association and the Leadership Collier Foundation.

Throughout 2020, Casey was instrumental in developing the City’s COVID-19 strategy including the City’s vaccination clinics and public information campaign. She has also led the City’s internal vacation rental task force to improve the City’s communication to and education of vacation rental property owners. “Casey has already added great value to the City of Marco Island through her experience and professionalism. In her new role she will continue to do exactly that, but with an expanded portfolio,” said McNees.
