Attention Marco Island Voters: Local Referendum Questions Placed on the Primary Election Ballot

Choose one of three ways to cast your vote

Two local referendum questions will be decided by qualified registered voters of Marco Island in the 2022 Primary Election, to be held August 23. Qualified electors will select either “Yes” or “No” to the following ballot questions:

Rental Registration Program for Residential Single-Family (RSF) Properties in the City of Marco Island - All qualified registered voters of Marco Island, including those without party affiliation, are entitled to vote on this ballot question:

“Shall the City of Marco Island enact an Ordinance adding to the Land Development Code of the Code of Ordinances, in Article II, Zoning, Section 30-90, creating a self-financed Transient (Vacation) RSF Rental Registration Program; creating definitions; conditions requiring registration and application requirements; defining requirements and qualification for Responsible Party; rental standards and inspections; renewal process; violation penalties including fines and/or the suspension of Registration Compliance Certificate?”

The referendum attained a position on the ballot after the political committee, Take Back Marco, collected the required number of petition signatures. The proposed referendum ordinance can be viewed on the city’s website, www.cityofmarcoisland.com, or at the City Clerk’s office, 50 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island.

Hideaway Beach Tax District, Tax and Bond Referendum - To be decided by voters within the Hideaway Beach District:

“Shall City re-authorize special ad valorem tax of up to 2.6 mills in District from January 1, 2024 through September 30, 2034, to pay District operating expenses and capital costs in providing beach renourishment/access services and improvements, which may include issuance of up to $2,900,000 in limited general obligation bonds payable from such tax, not exceeding maximum legal interest rates, maturing by September 30, 2034, in multiple series, to finance beach renourishment/access projects?”

Only registered voters within the Hideaway Beach District will vote on this referendum. The Hideaway Beach District is a dependent special district that was established by the Marco Island City Council in 2004, in accordance with Chapter 189, Florida Statutes.
