The Marco Island City Council has approved the purchase of two new fire apparatus for Marco Island Fire Rescue, representing an investment of more than $3.5 million in the City’s fire and emergency response capabilities.
Council took action after evaluating and understanding the significant reliability issues, increasing maintenance costs and excessive downtime associated with an aging apparatus fleet. Replacing the aging units will help improve apparatus reliability, reduce out-of-service time and ensure Marco Island firefighters continue to have dependable equipment available when responding to emergencies.
The approved purchases include a Pierce Enforcer Pumper, valued at approximately $1.03 million, which will replace a 2010 fire engine currently in the Department’s fleet.
City Council also approved the purchase of a Pierce Enforcer 100-foot Ascendant Tower, valued at approximately $2.52 million, which will replace the Department’s existing ladder truck.
The acquisition of both apparatus is part of the City’s continued commitment to maintaining a reliable and capable public safety fleet while planning for the long-term needs of the community.
The process does not end with Council approval. Both apparatuses will now move through engineering and production before being delivered to Marco Island.
Marco Island Fire Rescue plans to keep the community informed throughout that process by sharing production updates, photos and major milestones as the new apparatus move closer to completion and eventual arrival on Marco Island.
