The City of Marco Island will be concluding its vaccination clinics by the end of May 2021. The month of May will be dedicated to providing second doses of the Moderna vaccine. If you are a Marco Island resident over the age of 18 seeking a vaccine and would like a vaccine this month, please register at http://vaccine.cityofmarcoisland.com. Vaccine clinics are held on Fridays at Mackle Park.

Beginning March 29, 2021 Governor DeSantis has determined that Florida residents over the age of 40 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Beginning April 5, 2021 Florida residents over the age of 18 will be eligible.

The City of Marco Island will be conducting road work on Winterberry Drive on Thursday, March 25, 2021 through Friday, March 26, 2021 from 7:00am – 7:00pm. This work is related to the West Winterberry Bridge Replacement project. The bridge will remain open but will be limited to a single lane controlled by flaggers who will direct traffic. If possible, use alternative routes to avoid congestion. Use caution in this area and expect delays.

The Department of Health (DOH) Collier has acquired a mobile unit to provide COVID-19 testing and this week the mobile unit will include a testing location on Marco Island. On Thursday, December 17, 2020, COVID-19 testing will be available at Veterans’ Community Park between 9:00am – 1:00pm.

On September 25, 2020, Governor DeSantis announced Phase 3 of the State’s Reopening Plan effective immediately. Executive Order 20-244 highlights the right to work and operate a business noting that no local emergency ordinance may prevent a business from operating. (The City of Marco Island has no order in place restricting businesses on the Island.)

Marco Island’s annual road resurfacing project was set to begin on August 24, 2020 but has been delayed twice due to weather and is now scheduled to begin on August 31, 2020.     
The City of Marco Island staff is closely monitoring the developments of Hurricane Isaias.  Heavy rains and wind associated with Isaias may begin to affect south Florida late Friday night.  While this storm is not expected to impact Marco Island directly, preparations to protect property should be completed as the storm track can change with little notice.  Hurricane conditions along portions of South Florida are expected on Saturday.  Marco Island may experience increased rainfall which could cause roads to flood.  Do not drive on flooded roads or on any roads with more than six inches o

(07-31-2020)           The Yellowbird Road project has completed the preliminary groundwork for the start of construction which will begin the week of August 3, 2020.  On Monday August 3rd, barricades will be set up at Bald Eagle and Echo Circle (south), closing the roadway to local traffic only.  A detour will be set up at Jamaica and Fourwinds to direct traffic west to Bald Eagle.  Another detour will be set up at 6th Avenue to direct traffic either east or west on 6th Avenue due to roadway closures during phase one of construction.  Phase One will continue through November 20, 2020.

On July 24, 2020 the Florida Department of Health released a Public Health Advisory to protect Floridians and visitors from COVID-19.  The Advisory included a recommendation that all individuals in Florida should wear masks in any setting where social distancing is not possible.  The City of Marco Island strongly supports these recommendations and urges the public to continue to take precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. 

There has been a change to the construction plan on Yellowbird Street in Marco Island. Earlier this week, it was reported that the first phase of the Yellowbird construction project would begin at Collier Blvd and Yellowbird Street, however, Phase 1 will actually take place at Bald Eagle and continue to Echo Circle (south).  A map of the first phase of the project is attached.

(07/21/2020)            Construction on Yellowbird Street in Marco Island will take place in three phases beginning July 27, 2020 and continuing through July 5, 2021.  Phase 1 will begin July 27, 2020 and will end November 20, 2020 starting at Collier Blvd and Yellowbird Street.  Yellowbird Street will be open to local traffic only from Collier Blvd to Fruitland Avenue from July 27, 2020 to November 20, 2020.  Mail and garbage services will not be disrupted during this time.  
 

The Marco Island Police Department was notified that individuals may be in neighborhoods offering COVID-19 “home test kits” for a fee. The Florida Department of Health staff has indicated they will not go door-to-door selling test kits, nor will their healthcare partners.   Be aware this is a scam. 

(07-07-2020)        The City of Marco Island is collaborating with the Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida to provide COVID-19 testing for our community.

(06-30-2020)                Due to the closure of many public beaches throughout South Florida, the City of Marco Island, in coordination with Collier County and the City of Naples, will close the pedestrian beach access points between 11:00am – 5:00pm Friday July 3rd, Saturday July 4th, and Sunday July 5th.  Collier County beaches on Marco Island will also be closed between 11:00am – 5:00pm over the holiday weekend. 

(06-26-2020)                          In April, Governor DeSantis signed a bill legalizing fireworks in Florida on three holidays: July 4th, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.  However, this legislation does not supersede local regulations relating to the use of fireworks. Fireworks are not allowed on Marco Island.

(06-23-2020)         On June 20, 2020 the Florida Department of Health released a Public Health Advisory to protect Floridians and visitors from COVID-19.

As part of Governor DeSantis’ Phase 2 Reopening, Marco Island City facilities will be partially opened to the public beginning Monday June 8, 2020.  The City had closed many public buildings in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect both residents and City employees.

(05-28-2020)                 On May 27, 2020 the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) approved Collier County’s Updated Vacation Rental Safety Plan, which will apply in the City of Marco Island. 

On May 21, 2020 the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) approved Collier County’s Vacation Rental Safety Plan.  As a result, the City of Marco Island has updated its Emergency Order removing the provision prohibiting vacation rentals.

(05-21-2020)         The City of Marco Island has developed a plan to mitigate the effects of crowding, traffic, and increased trash on Marco Island beaches over Memorial Day Weekend.

The City of Marco Island has developed a plan to mitigate the effects of crowding on Marco Island beaches during the COVID-19 pandemic.  An Emergency Order has been executed by Council Chair Erik Brechnitz that increases fines for illegal parking, failing to appropriately social distance on the beach, and other violations of the City’s beach conduct ordinance.

In order to assist local restaurants operating under Governor DeSantis’ Executive Order 20-112, the City of Marco Island is providing temporary allowances for outdoor seating.

04-15-2020               The City of Marco Island encourages all residents to wear a face covering in all public gathering places, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and other essential businesses.  Through the generosity of Al’s Pals and Tarik and Janice Ayasun they will be distributing masks to the Marco Island community on Saturday April 18, 2020 from 9:00am – 12:30pm at Veteran’s Community Park.  Working together we can stop the spread of COVID-19.

04-07-2020                    The Marco Island City Council approved opening one pedestrian beach access point beginning April 13, 2020 from dawn to dusk.

04-03-2020             Based on the Governor’s Executive Order 20-91 effective April 3, 2020, the City of Marco Island Police Department is currently educating the public and working with business owners and residents to ensure compliance.

04-01-2020              The City of Marco Island has received the Governor’s Executive Order 20-91.  We encourage all business owners to read it.  The City will act on this order accordingly.  The Order goes into effect at 12:01am on April 3, 2020 and shall expire on April 30, 2020, unless extended. 

03-31-2020 015            Caxambas Park located at 909 Collier Court, will be closed effective 4-1-2020.

03-30-20 014       The Collier County Department of Health has confirmed a third patient has tested positive for COVID-19 who has a Marco Island address.

03-30-20 013         Effective noon today, 03-30-2020, Mackle Park’s playground, spray park, and exterior bathrooms will be closed as well as the beach and fishing areas located under the S.S. Jolley Bridge.

03-27-2020 010            The Marco Island Racquet Center located at 1275 San Marco Road will be closed effective at 12:00 PM noon, 03-27-2020 until further notice.

03-25-20 007     If you are considering coming to Marco Island for vacation or recreation, we urge you to stay home. Under normal conditions, we would welcome visitors and part-time residents, but these are not normal conditions.

03-25-2020 006         Many residents are asking questions about closing Marco Island to non-residents. We want to reassure our community that the decision-making process related to all closures involves many things, at the forefront of which are public health and safety and constitutionally protected civil liberties. The City is not closing the bridge or restricting travel to and from the island at this point. 

03-23-2020       Closure of City Hall to the Public. Until further notice the Marco Island City Hall will be closed to the general public.  City Hall is open for business by telephone or email, or online through the city website.

03-20-2020 004      The City of Marco Island is strictly following the advice from the Center for Disease Control, State and Federal health officials in order to protect public health. Collier County has closed South Beach and Tigertail beach areas. The City of Marco Island has closed public beach parking areas and access points.  Effective sundown today, March 20th, the Marco Island Civic Association Resident’s Beach parking lot will be closed. 

03-19-2020 003      Following the lead of State and County officials, City of Marco Island has announced that effective at dusk today public beach access controlled by the City of Marco Island will be closed until further notice.  Specifically, the two points impacted are Madeira public beach access and Crystal Shores public beach access. 

03-17-20 002             On March 17, 2020, City Manager McNees, Police Chief Frazzano, Fire Chief Murphy and senior city staff met with the management of the Island’s major hotels.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the pandemic, its local impact, and steps being taken to minimize exposure.
