Reserve/Auxiliary Officers

The Auxiliary and Reserve Unit comprised up of two types of uniformed personnel.

  • The reserve component is comprised of volunteer sworn police officers who have attended a police academy (Florida or other states) - reserve officers from other states attend a crossover academy to obtain Florida certification. 
  • The Auxiliary element consists of volunteer sworn police officers who have attended a Florida auxiliary police academy, which is slightly shorter than that attended by the full-time and reserve officers. 

Both the Auxiliary and Reserve officers must meet the same entrance requirements and pass the same rigorous background as full-time police officers.

Auxiliary and reserve police officers are not paid for their services. The members of this unit must serve no less 16 hours per month of uniform service to maintain their certification.

The Auxiliary and Reserve Unit is led by Reserve and Auxiliary Officer Support Specialist -Officer Bill Miller and supervised by Reserve & Auxiliary Coordinator / Administrative Sergeant.

The unit is a force multiplier for emergencies, special events, and any other police or community activities for which the Department requires additional assistance.

Members of the Auxiliary and Reserve Unit are on-call 24/7/365.
