City Council Qualifications

The qualifications for serving on City Council are established by Section 5.03 of the City Charter.  Candidates must be:

  • A resident of the City for at least one year prior to qualifying.
  • A qualified elector of the City.
  • To qualify as a candidate, petitions shall be opened from and submitted to the Collier County Supervisor of Elections  by June 18, 2024 (28 days before the first day of qualifying for the office sought) and shall contain signatures of qualified electors of the City equal to one (1) percent of the total number of City electors registered in the last general election.

 

  • The term of office is four years and no Council Member shall serve more than two full consecutive terms.  No Council member (or former Council Member) shall serve more than eight years in office during his/her lifetime. 

 

Persons interested in running for City Council may obtain information on the City Website:  "How to Run for City Council" or an election package from the City Clerk's Office.    The election package contains the necessary forms and information that are needed to begin the candidate process.
