Employee of the Quarter

On July 24, 2023, Fire Inspector Adilen Borrego received the Employee of the Quarter Award presented to her by the City Council. Adilen was recognized for her swift action to save a life. On Thursday, July 10th while having lunch in the Station break room with a fellow Fire Inspector, Adilen recognized he was in distress, she took action immediately asking if he was choking, in which he nodded yes. Adilen, who is also a certified firefighter, quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver and after several attempts, expelled the food that was blocking his airway.

Caught in the Act

On Friday, September 15, a mother of a new born premature baby visited the Fire Station looking for assistance in acquiring a car seat. She was met in the Lobby by Fire Inspector Michelle Velotta who took on the task of helping this new mom. Michelle called around to local charities to locate a car seat however none were available. Additionally, Michelle reached out to her contacts on the east coast and located an available car seat. Over the weekend, on her time off, Michelle met with a friend and acquired the car seat. On Monday, she brought the car seat to work, called the mother and installed the new seat in her vehicle. For her efforts to help and for her concern for the baby's safety, Fire Inspector Michelle Velotta was awarded the City’s Caught in the Act Award!
