Fire Station 51
In 2016, Fire Station 51 was damaged by a fire caused by a lightning strike while firefighters were working another incident. Due to the age of the fire station, 50 years old, and the damages caused by the fire, City Council approved the replacement of Fire Station 51 in 2018.
The new 8,070 SF Fire Station sits on a very tight 13,700 SF site. The new 2-story facility has an apparatus bay for 2 fire engines and accommodations for a staff of seven firefighters. The station includes a day room, bunk rooms, offices, and fitness room.
Conditioned and occupied space required a floor elevation of a minimum of 2 feet above base flood elevation while aligning drives and pedestrian circulation with the existing street elevations nearly 4 feet below base flood. This 6-foot differential was solved in an aesthetically pleasing design utilizing the vertical circulation elements of stairs and elevator.
Fire Station 51 was designed by BSSW Architects and constructed by DeAngelis Diamond Construction.
Fire Station 51 was dedicated on March 18, 2019
